Why a chicken coop blueprint is so important

Building a chicken coop, even a small one is not an easy task. You have many things to take in to account. As the matter of fact, a small chicken coop has many parts but here are some of the core.

* Chicken need sleep so you must have a place for them to do so
* The nest for them to lay eggs
* Place for the chicken to eat
* Where they will drink water
* Where you put the light

Fist we discuss about the roost, where your beloved chicken will sleep on. The ideal material of the roost is wood. Your chicken will feel comfortable when peerching on it. The recommend size is 2 x 2. A metal or plastic roost will risk your chicken falling down when sleeping. The height from 18" to 24" from the floor is recommended. Now we build the nest. You shouldn't put it as high as the roost. In my experience, chicken perfer to sleep in the nest than in the roost. Therefore, to prevent other chicken messing up the nest, you should put it lower, on the ground is preferable. The material to build a nest is very easy to find. A box can do the job well. Don't forget to put in some soft grass to make your female chicken feel comfortable.

One of the most important part of a chicken coop is the place where they eat. Don't ever place the feed manger below the roost because the chicken will drop some dirty things on. Build a feed base is very easy. You should make it easy to fill and easy to remove because sometime, you need to clean it.

The water pot should be made the same as you did with the feed base. Keep it low and easy to remove, easy to fill. You need to place several water cup in the coop so all the chicken will be served.

Chickens do not need light in the night but they do need daylight. Therefore, you needn't place some light bulb inside the coop but the coop must have some windows to provide your chickens enough daylights. The coop also need a good ventialtion system so your chicken will feel comfortable even in the summer.
